Creative place making is one of the emerging alternative space in urban society nowadays. The alternative space linked the creative community in urban scape into some the whole expressive public space. The urgency on this alternative spaces, has an impact on the place-branding, which also enggaging the social empowerment and participation of the public. Place making in Bandung has been becoming the issues on urban development by Bandung Creative City program. One of the manifestation is to encourge the rural society to embrace the local potential. The place should be perceive as the alternative public space, which has no attachment with the mainstream urban commercial scape on the city. The alternative space provides the freedomm of the the mode of participation. It offer multiciplity on the local potential empowerment to be exposed and contribute on the place branding. The Cilanguk Art district has been initiated by several artist which live in rural area.
Cilanguk located on the border of Bandung city, which suffers the impact of the urban sprawl. This village has been exist on the rural green belt Bandung’s border in which nowadays there are so many Jakarta visitors who cames in the Bandung rural area due the the geographic location and nature recreation. On this case, Cilanguk then becoming a villager which response the urban impact on tourism activity. The visitor of Bandung tends to go rural and find some natural amusement facilitated by the proper hospitality as cafe or hotel. This phenomena has been respons by the creative community by create some kind of creative alternative space which enggage the local empowerment.
Cilanguk art district has initiated the music event ,theatre, exhibiton ,performance art lab and some site specific installation. The participation of artist,designer and other creative community creates some unique vibrant program routinely create a “ Bilbao effect” on the society around. The event sequential music event composed in installation art, is one of the idea to create a creative program which rise the social enggagement. The participatory event also start to develop to linkage the villagers need of oportunity to rise their income on creative way. Furthermore, the educational program which emphasize on kids creative also evolved to contribute on social empowerment. This mode of creative place making are able to create the unknown area into some ‘tourist’ destination which open wider opportunity for the villagers to raise their welfare for income and knowledge. The further program needs to be develop the reflect the contemporary cultural identity which needed to gave the sense of place on this creative place .
